Personal Care Aide (PCA) Job Description

The job description outlines your primary responsibilities as a Personal Care Aide (PCA). This description is not meant to be an exhaustive list of services as the exact duties to be performed for each assignment will vary. OBJECTIVE: To provide professional caregiving services to enable clients to remain in their own homes.

Responsibilities

  1. Help with prescribed exercises which the client and personal care aide have been taught by a Registered Nurse
  2. Provide limited assistance with personal care- bathing, dressing, care of mouth, skin and hair, transfers, locomotion, eating
  3. Provide limited assistance with ambulation
  4. Assist with self-administration of medications which are ordered by a physician or other person authorized by state law to prescribe. This includes reminders and
    opening containers with medication. Personal Care Aides may not touch medication
  5. Perform incidental household services which are essential to the client’s care at home
  6. Record and report changes in the client’s condition, family situation or needs to RN Supervisor. RN Supervisor is available at all times
  7. Plan & prepare meals followed by clean up
  8. Clean bathroom and kitchen to maintain a safe and healthy environment
  9. Make beds and change bed linens
  10. Light housekeeping to include dusting, mopping, and vacuuming
  11. Laundry
  12. Supervise household maintenance such as housecleaning service, plumber, gardener
  13. Run errands
  14. Pet care
  15. Provide incidental transportation using client or caregiver car

Other Requirements

  1. Must show competent skills to an Aware Senior Care registered nurse demonstrating limited assistance in the following areas: mobility, ambulation,
    transfers, bathing, toileting, continence needs, dressing, and eating
  2. Report any significant client changes or changes to client’s home environment to the RN supervisor immediately
  3. Document hours worked, tasks completed/not completed, and mileage, as applicable, electronically through telephony or the caregiver application of
    agency’s software system
  4. Immediately notify the office any changes in own physical abilities that may change my ability to perform all duties as assigned

PCA Job Qualifications

  1. Ability to treat clients with dignity and respect
  2. Ability to read and write English at an average adult level
  3. Ability to speak English clearly, both in person and on the phone
  4. Ability to drive or use public transportation to get to work
  5. Ability to be flexible and adapt to new situations
  6. Ability to stand, walk, concentrate, climb stairs, bend, pull, reach, lift at least 25 pounds, squat, twist, and push without restrictions
  7. No current physical or mental restrictions ordered by a medical professional that limit any of the above qualifications
